Come fly with me in the sky
Come fall with me on the field
We’ll dance, and dream
and go outside and get drunk
Like lovers, with our friends
In our little stream
Come play with me on the hill
Come dance with me on the rocks
We’ll dance, and dream
and go outside and get drunk
Like lovers, with our friends
In our little stream
Come hide with me in a bush
Come fly with me into the sky
We’ll dance, and dream
and go outside and get drunk
Like lovers, with our friends
In our little stream

Golden Bay
05:51
|

We were scrying in the water like a lion in a laughtering line,
Feel them emanating like a pile of seashells in your mind.
It’s four in the morning and the wheels are starting to waltz,
We’ll be underneath the window looking at all the ways we can go and get off.
The depth of the elephant forever go take me away,
And it’ll wait for me here on the way to the edge of a waterfall
Windswept in We. Yeah, we are the lines of mystery
O so golden, and so honest just like a morning wave
Rolling slowly onto a beach somewhere in the Golden Bay.
You were doing something new that new you knew you were doing
That flew you to noon just as the fires be chewing
On the musk of a caribou sent from afar
On a mission to bring back all of our world to its heart.
The T.V. devastate us a beautiful spiel of wah,
It was getting complicated, but we’re listening deep on down in our hearts.
As the good red road hold us out in the stars
O it’s a world in the stars, O we are…
We were drawn to the window on a pen at the end of a line
Just laughing in the shadows with our brothers and sisters, O yea we’re kind.
We know there’s more to the morning than the science of turning
It’s just coming from the cold, to the warm face of the wild that we’re learning.
We’re walking in the city with nowhere we gotta go,
Just walking around in our home. Until we get to the town-belt
And the football of fire, free in the world, to appreciate…
And the middle of the road is no place for a rest
It’s just a good place to be if you are a guest
On the blue crystal ball shining in a way
That sweeps out the shade for the rest of the universe.
It is all independent like a child beaming on a swing
Watch him go get happy as you go and notice him.
He’s filling up fast with the goodness of Home
See his eyes shine wide, see them glow

Mongrels
04:16
|
|||
Life is a game and if you wanna win all you gotta do is have as much fun as you can
Give your shoulders to the sad, give your tails to the man.
Sky is our father, earth is our mother and all of us brothers and sisters are a little bit of it all,
We're all mongrels baby, a big old motley bag
Yeah, we are all mongrels baby!
This summer we've been chasing the sticks and having a good time
Giving the wind a big old, sloppy old lick, running round, giving a kiss to the ground.
Some people like to believe that a bank just wants to give you the best deal on your bone
I don't know?
Some people know about the stars
Some people know about their lives
Some people know about their bones
Yeah, we are all mongrels baby!
Life is a game and if you wanna win all you gotta do is have as much fun as you can
Give your shoulders to the sad, give your tails to the man.
Sky is our father, earth is our mother and all of us brothers and sisters are a little bit of it all
We're a little old motley crowd, a little old motley crowd
Yeah, we are all mongrels baby!

Hitchhiker

What a day for a hitchhike baby, will you come pick me up from the road?
Take me anywhere you might go. I’m heading up the coast
My thumb swing over the sky just like Tarzan’s alibi
These are just stories writ to believe in the Great Old Mystery
What a day for a hitchhike baby, will ya come pick me up from the road?
Take me anywhere you might go. I’m heading up the coast
I know what the newspaper say; you gotta watch out these days
But if your heart got made to be true then let it go sing for you
What a day for a hitchhike baby, will ya come pick me up from the road?
Take me anywhere you might go. I’m heading up the coast

Somebody Else

Maybe it was summer that stalled on the pillow of my cask of wine
But it wasn’t going to prison I didn’t like, it was getting out.
Because in a prisoners cell there is a strong medicine
That you take when you do get played
And you drink it down to the bottom of a well
So at least you don’t feel framed
There’s only two ways you can turn to an angel that stands at you side
And either way I’m going one way, and that is back inside
Because this old train has gone still on the tracks
And I don’t have any more coal to steam.
But I will walk on to the end of the line
So at least I don’t get framed
You can’t be somebody when you just might be somebody else
And if you see somebody, and they tell you that I am gone,
I’m just moving on
Maybe if we were the only two people left on the earth
I would know there was nowhere left to run, and nowhere to search
But as it goes, my compass is aglow like a bright star, or a web of roads
To be honest I don’t really know, but sometimes you just got to let go
You can’t be somebody when you just might be somebody else
I don’t mind hanging, but don’t hang me against the wall

I Got
07:00
|
|||
I got a fancy house, and I got a fancy wife
But she don’t listen to me when i’m down
Yeah i call her up but it’s me upside down
And I wish I was
It got hard to hold my pen, writing letters that i could not send.
Now my pen, it just don’t seem to write
I got ideas, but they’re locked up inside
And I wish I was
But I have these memories of a golden age when I was still at my reigns
But not tied to my hay-filled cart.
Yeah, I used to see fields in my eyes, and want to run far
Now I want to go home...
I got a modern horse, and i got a lake-side yacht
I got a bach in the golden bay, yeah, I got a bach up Takaka way
But I did not get that I was a slave until I went to go but I had to stay
And said; ‘No I won’t’
Aowl!

It's Getting Old
03:39
|
|||
The checker-board of wisdom for the ball in fancy dress
The fairy-tale spins but they only caught the dress
They heard that the driveway has new markers, and the hoods were out last night
But there ain’t too many ribbons for the ride
Just a bingo-hall of numbers on the living-room floor
Where all the draughts came in cos a foot is stuck in the door
Must be that paper that came spinning from the paper-mans hand
Chasing birds: counting themselves into sand
It’s getting old
House prices are rising, and the banks are at the door
Either you’ve not been paying or they hope you want some more
I hope they put it in the paper with a slant but not the gist
Cos if it’s actually important you gotta do the twist
Like the periscope of captions that spy a trawler full of fish
Missing half the dolphins, yeah, but they caught the rest
They heard that the roads have turned to cobwebs and the glass-houses to ice
Cos when you’re real far away it’s really hard to realise
It’s not a pie, it’s just a slice
It’s getting old
rag, rag, rag,
still the paper come
There’s a young African man laying slumped in a crimson palm
With teeth-marks in his neck, and a drip hung from his arm
He must have walked the wrong way in Bretton woods yesterday
O O O and the headline say:
He was a terrorist that would not change
Cos to the writer: it was just a task in the wage
For the editor: a little file for the world page,
And for the shareholders: a little return on their change
But to his daughter: he was the father that did not stay
To his mother: he was the baby that she raised
To his wife: he was the lover for whom she prayed
To his prayers: he was a soul, a good soul to be saved
To his soul: he was a wind in the change
But to the wind: he was a newspaper in the rain
Going grey,
Getting old
It’s getting old
Not getting old
It’s getting old

Kitchen Blues
02:11
|
|||
there’s not a lot of money
when you’re young
working in the kitchen jobs
on the hill
you gotta serve ‘em good,
you gotta serve ‘em good
the mountain ranges grow
on your fingers full of soap
you gotta get them plates clean
you gotta get them plate clean
out the back in the lanes
there’s that saying that goes
‘i’m gonna curl up and die,
i’m gonna curl up and die’
but when tables all get put away
and we go back into the night
and into the day
you will still be young
and you will be owed

Wild Grass Sway
02:24
|
|||
Sleep in your little kahurangis
We’ll find you a choir to help you to sleep
Like all of the wild grass sways
Us in our jester, dancing for our queen
Falling on the floor, looking for a smile
Until all of the wild grass sway
Until safe in a dream, deep in a wave
The wind on your face from far, far away
Where all of the wild grass sway
Yeah, all of the wild grass sway
Yeah, all of the wild grass sway

Ruru
05:55
|

We were born long ago, long before, evenings ode
Riding on the starlight, lost in the moonlight, and heed of the wild
To be free as the pollen blow from the seed of Eden’s snow
We will hold our long goodbye in the poetry of the sky
And i will sing for you my darling, dear Ruru, of the sky
So you may come one day home to me along the long and gusty sea
And I will cry sweet tears of joy
So go my dear and darling one, to the call that cries in the dark
And i will be there, and I will dream of you, on the mountain,
In the tree who you can come home to
Baby, come before the morning moan from the gate of Great Unknown
Come by this way through the great hall of stars
To the mountain, where there is a sound for you my love
Just a sound, hollering, so it is so
hello, hello
Ruru, Ruru

Lead Me Out Tonight
03:24
|
|||
L e a d M e O u t T o n i g h t
The news said; ‘The boy don’t have a home,’ in the long way
Too free even to speak a word of change
Come lead me out tonight, I see your light
And if I am called then I am run for you
Love
The golden brick road grave has new flowers
And the garden has overgrown the bee in the bower
Come lead me out tonight, I need to see a mountain burn
And I am free to say
Love
There is so much to see and it’s all so far
So I’m going to follow the lights to far off land
Come lead me out tonight, my hands are black
And I think my house has been on fire for days
Love
There she come in the morning light in a hail of doves
With all her brown skin bright with love
To come lead me off the night, back down the wild
And winding road that cuts the coast and say...

The Sea

|

The Sea
See it all just roll away,
And I will hold on to the wind today
I can sail the whole world away, and hold all your breath
I’m gonna miss you all
Though the tide is long
The ocean I’m on is mine
My sails are all for you
I can sail the whole world away,
And give it all to the end of the day
The waves are gold with all your tears
And my heart is full with all your prayers
Though the tide is long
The ocean I’m on is mine
My sails are all for you
A little dove run above my sail
It know the way home, I am Heaven’s child
My sails are full, and my keel is calm
I never forget all the times we had
Though the tide is long
The ocean I’m on is mine
My sails are all for you
So from the land of the long white cloud
I will never forget all the times we had
High in the night, tall in the deepest sky
You may see my wake run across the night
Though the sky it is long
The ocean I’m on is mine
My sails are all for you
Though the tide is long
The ocean I’m on is mine
My sails are all for you
